The buckle is of enormous importance in the quality of the strapping.

The faster and greater the disortion of the buckle, the fastetr the strapping breaks.

European Directive:

  • tensile strength of strapping with buckle = 30-50% of the tensile strength without buckle

USA Norm ASTM 3950 D- series: (to ASTM 3950)

  • tensile strength of strapping with buckle = 56% of the tensile strength without buckle

Quality Buckles:

  • steel tensile strength
  • toughness of steel because of possible tears in the corners of the buckle
  • adhesion of the zinc layer
  • flatness of the buckle surface
  • crossing disortion
  • no burrs on the strapping contact surfaces
  • sloping leg = tensile side
  • angle of sloping leg must be loose enough to prevent scissoring
  • correct type of buckle with the right strapping

Capacity Ratio Standard Buckles

  • Galvanized        = 100%

  • Profiled             = 130%

  • Sherardised       = 150%
